On Friday, March 1, Without Recourse opens at Store Gallery. There will be an opening reception from 5-8pm, which coincides with “Art ‘Round Town” scheduled for that evening.
In the upcoming exhibition, Annie Campbell and Kaitlyn Coppola will be using clay in a very non-traditional format to create a site specific installation at Store Gallery.
For this exhibition, both artists will be working with unfired clay to create tenuous tree and animal forms that evoke a sense of environmental degradation, struggle and near disaster. Annie’s tree forms and Kate’s animal masses will occupy the floor, walls and ceiling in a way that will cause the viewer to move about the space in a prescribed manner while monitoring the location of the work.
This layout is meant to invoke a sense of responsibility for the health of the environment they are occupying, in both an immediate and broader sense.
They have chosen to work with unfired to clay to emphasize the ever present possibility of change...whether that change will be a positive resolution or complete dissolution is the question.
The exhibit will run through Sunday, March 31st. The gallery's hours of operation are Friday (11-6), Saturday (11-6), and Sunday (12-4). Store Gallery is located at 319 Vaughan Street.
