Boston Dance Theater returns to 3S Artspace
for two nights with: Strong Women of Today
Portsmouth, NH Monday, February 23, 2026— 3S Artspace is pleased to announce the return of Boston Dance Theater (BDT) with Strong Women of Today, an electrifying contemporary dance program featuring works by leading female choreographers from across the United States. Performances take place Friday, April 3, and Saturday, April 4, at 7:30 PM.
This engagement marks Boston Dance Theater’s fourth consecutive year returning to 3S Artspace as a company. Past 3S Artspace performances include The Carol Kaye Project (2023), Pinnacle Works (2024), and Red is a feeling (2025).
“We’ve developed a meaningful and evolving relationship allowing BDT to treat 3S as both a reliable performance home and a laboratory for artistic exploration while simultaneously advancing our shared vision for high-quality, accessible contemporary dance in the region,” said Beth Falconer, Executive Director of 3S Artspace
Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, BDT Founder and Co-Director, describes Strong Women as “a playlist of some of the hottest female choreographers in the United States today that should get played on repeat.”
Since its inception, Boston Dance Theater has maintained a deep commitment to amplifying the voices of strong female choreographers of color. Strong Women of Today is an evening of short works commissioned by the company from four influential artists: Rena Butler, Rosie Herrera, Micaela Taylor, and Yue Yin.
Spanning a range of movement languages from grounded physicality to explosive contemporary forms, the program highlights the distinctive artistic voices shaping the future of dance in America today. Together, these works reflect themes of identity, resilience, cultural memory, and collective power.
“In Strong Women, strength is not monolithic. One choreographer may express it through grounded, rhythmic force, another through fluid resilience or quiet resolve,” Jessie Jeanne Stinnett said. “The diversity of perspectives creates an evening that feels dynamic and surprising, offering audiences multiple entry points into what strength looks and feels like in the body.”
Audience members are invited to stay after each performance for a post-show talkback with the dancers, offering the opportunity to explore the creative vision, cultural influences, thematic narratives, and choreographic approaches of the four women whose works comprise Strong Women of Today.
“Strong Women embodies our mission of curiosity, creativity, and community. BDT’s commitment to amplify female choreographers of color fosters empathy, bridges divergent perspectives, and sparks dialogue and reflection on contemporary issues at the heart of 3S Artspace’s vision,” said Beth Falconer.
Extending community impact, on Saturday, April 4, Boston Dance Theater will hold an open company class and rehearsal viewing experience for students from local dance schools prior to the evening performance.
“BDT will connect directly with the next generation of dancers, pre-professional artists, and community members to offer hands-on learning experiences and the opportunity to observe the movement, music, and collaborative dynamics that go into shaping the final performance. We’re creating pathways to deepen their understanding of the artistic process,” said Beth Falconer.
Founded in 2019 and based in Boston, Boston Dance Theater is an internationally recognized contemporary dance company known for emotionally driven performance, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and socially engaged artistic work. BDT has performed across the United States and Europe, building a reputation for powerful ensemble dancing and innovative repertory.
