Artist Statement:

Cody Mack is an interdisciplinary artist often working in the forms of painting, printmaking and sculpture. Having grown up in the Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania, he takes interest in place and how it can transcend in terms of art and abstraction. His recent work employs a natural sandstone, Pennsylvania Bluestone, as both a theoretical topic and sculptural material. Similar to the ‘found object,’ Bluestone moves beyond the familiar, yet is self referential in its own objecthood. The utilitarian material, tripartite hue, and generally reductive properties present systems for making, and explore concepts related to chance, seriality and pictorial organization. Using both predetermined and subjective aesthetics, Mack presents his own paradox exploring language, composition, line and color.

Cody Mack Bio:

Cody Mack is a visual artist based in Lowell, Massachusetts and works as a preparator at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. He received his BFA in painting from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2014.
