Artist Statement
Collaborative painting allows participants to express themselves as individuals as they contribute to the whole. This activity raises awareness of the subject and fosters dialogue, connection and the spirit of community.

When we create together we:

  • gather
  • share stories
  • learn about each other
  • connect
  • strengthen community-become part of something bigger

The artwork is a representation of the subject and a collective expression of the community that created it. As an exhibit, Growing Up Portsmouth tells a story and legacy that captures this moment in a shared place and history.
