ABOUT THE DESIGNERS

2025 ASHLEY

ASHLEY CUSHON Ashley Cushon began her creative journey as an illustrator before transitioning to fashion design, driven by a desire to enhance her artistic expression and conceptual skills. Since earning her BFA in Fashion Design, Ashley has delved into diverse areas of the apparel industry—from serving in design education and working with local designers to finding her current niche in functional apparel. Deeply inspired by people, places, culture, and history, her work is a mosaic of personal experiences and untapped explorations. With every creation, she strives to inspire authenticity and foster a profound connection to the world around her. (2024 Winner)

2025 JUSTINROSE

JUSTINROSE DESPER is an artist, educator, and community organizer based in Biddeford, Maine. Originally focused on sculptural garment design, their work has recently shifted toward collaboration with local performance artists and deeper community involvement. They also teach in Biddeford High School's alternative program, emphasizing hands-on learning that connects students to the world around them. (2018 Winner)

Olivia

OLIVIA DWYER is Olivia Dwyer grew up in Newcastle, ME and received her BFA in Fashion and Textiles at Maine College of Art in 2018. She currently lives in Philadelphia, PA and works at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in addition to her personal practice. She has worked as a freelance production seamstress, product developer, custom designer, and sample seamstress. Dwyer’s conceptual work centers around emotional vulnerability and learning how to hold space for ourselves and those around us. (2019 Winner)

Henry

HENRY HAWK is a Rhode Island–based fashion designer known for blending workwear and traditional tailoring techniques with reclaimed materials. His work emphasizes craftsmanship, historical references, and hand touch—creating garments that are built to last. Learning from the past to inform the present, the stitches tell the story. (2023 Winner)

Elias

ELIAS MATSO is a NYC based designer focused on corsetry and eveningwear. He is going into his last year of fashion school in at Polimoda in Italy and recently showed at NYFW as a collaboration with Christian Cowan. (2020 Winner)

Mo

MO PEPIN is a self-taught designer based in Roslindale, Massachusetts, whose work spans across mediums, moving between the functional and the playful. They like to say that design begins with simply saying “yes” to an idea—giving it space to grow enriches not only our lives but also the communities we live in. Pepin often helps friends with alterations and small projects, seeing design as an everyday practice of generosity and curiosity. (2022 Winner)

ABOUT THE MODELS

Jeff
Anna-1

JEFF BROWN moved to Portsmouth four years ago with his wife, owner of Hera Skin and Wellness. They were married at 3S Artspace, a spot that reflects their mutual love for this city’s creative spirit. As founder of plant-based, compostable water bottle company Nectr, and as a coach at F45, Jeff champions sustainability, wellness, and community.

ANNA GREENSLADE is a Portsmouth native, 3S Artspace board member, Project Upcycle superfan, and active committee member. She works as a Product Manager at Momenta, a leading designer and distributor based in Portsmouth on Islington Street. Deeply connected to the Seacoast creative community, Anna is passionate about supporting local artists, makers, and the events that bring them together. She’s delighted to be part of this year’s celebration and the inspiring network of talent it represents.

Celeste

CELESTE LADD is a longtime Seacoast resident who now lives in York, Maine, with her husband and five-year-old son. She works in higher education as a grant writer and fundraiser and spends her free time with her family, practicing ceramics, or gardening. Celeste spent many years working in Portsmouth’s arts community and counts the opening of 3S Artspace among her proudest accomplishments.

Evan-1

EVAN MALLETT is the chef and owner of Black Trumpet in Portsmouth, New Hampshire—an acclaimed restaurant dedicated to building a resilient community around local food, sustainability, and social justice. A six-time James Beard Foundation semi-finalist for Best Chef: Northeast, Evan has also earned a national Beard nomination for Best Hospitality.

Beyond the kitchen, Evan has served on the boards of Chef’s Collaborative, Slow Food Seacoast, and Cultivate—a nonprofit he co-founded to support local food and culture initiatives such as BIPOC Fest and Farm-a-Q. He is also the author of the award-winning cookbook Black Trumpet: A Chef’s Journey through Eight New England Seasons (Chelsea Green Publishing, 2016).

During the pandemic, Evan converted the Black Trumpet kitchen into a production space twice a week to prepare meals for food-insecure families across southern New Hampshire and Maine. In spring 2025, he launched a culinary program at Great Bay Community College to help revitalize the local hospitality industry. He lives in southern Maine with his wife, Denise.

Cynthia

CYNTHIA WHITCOMB is a devoted mother of two and proud grandmother of six. She has built a successful career as an Executive Secretary since college and has also developed expertise in cosmetics and skin care. A lifelong figure skater with over 20 years of experience, she took part in Skating With The Stars at Strawbery Banke for two consecutive years. Dancing is another of her passions—she believes movement is the key to joy and vitality.

Elisa

ELISA WINTER HOLBEN is the Founding Principal of Winter Holben architecture + design, a multidisciplinary studio based in Kittery, Maine. Passionate about all forms of design, her work spans architecture, interiors, and experiential graphic design—blending these disciplines into award-winning environments across the nation and locally, including community destinations such as 3S Artspace, the Seacoast Science Center, Rice Public Library, and Strawbery Banke Museum. Elisa also recently opened 3 Walker Contemporary, a gallery located in the studio’s new building in the heart of Kittery Foreside, created to celebrate art and design as an extension of the firm’s work. For Elisa, design is a tool for connection—bringing people together, fostering creativity, and strengthening communities.

ABOUT THE JUDGES

Kelly

KELLY DEMPSEY is a sustainable fashion designer best known as the runner-up on Project Runway Season 14. Her out-of-the-box, resourceful approach to fashion has made her a pioneer in the upcycling movement, creating one-of-a-kind garments from secondhand materials. As the founder of Barterloo, a new platform that empowers skill and resource exchange outside of traditional currency systems, Kelly continues to challenge fast fashion by making sustainability accessible, creative, and community-driven. Her work centers around the belief that fashion should be both expressive and ethical, reflecting individuality and conscious living.

Chris

CHRIS DIXON is a visionary footwear designer and founder of Cnstnt:Dvlpmnt, blending luxury aesthetics, cultural storytelling, and community-driven design. With years of experience including Timberland and beyond, he has crafted iconic products, led collaborations, and built creative programs that inspire the next generation. His work merges premium materials, bold narratives, and innovative details—always with purpose, soul, and constant development at the core.

MI

MI LEGGETT is a New York–based fashion designer and founder of the anti-waste, gender-free label Official Rebrand. A former food justice advocate with a background in sustainable agriculture and art, they transform discarded textiles into upcycled collections shown at New York and Berlin Fashion Weeks and international galleries. Their collaborations include SoundCloud, HBO, Nike, and Oatly. Leggett was the winner of the debut season of Upcycle Nation, a design competition TV series celebrating innovation in sustainable fashion, and was named a CFDA “One to Watch.” They also lecture at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and serve on the board of the ethical fashion marketplace Sellery. Their work has been featured in The New York Times, Vogue Italia, WWD, and more.

ABOUT THE EMCEE

GEMMA

 

GEMMA SOLDATI is an American performing and teaching artist. She won Best Comedy at the 2019 Melbourne Fringe with The Living Room. She has taught in Los Angeles, New England, Chicago, and Toronto for both adults and children. Gemma was Hopkinton NH’s Elementary’s School’s Artist in Residence for 2024. She was the 2023/24 resident at Ars Nova’s Makers Lab in NYC. She also won Artist of the Year 2023 from Stay Work Play.

Gemma’s focus is clown inspired work developed in front of live audiences. Her projects playfully dive deep into the heart of vital themes probing audiences with questions and meaning making - Grief, Ritual, Sleep, Dreams, Money, Power and beyond. Her current project is The Adventures of Sleepyhead, a family show, book and in-development tv program about a dreamy, sleepy character named Sleepyhead.

The Adventures of Sleepyhead was developed at the New Hampshire Theatre Project and had a successful run with critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe at Assembly in 2022. Sleepyhead has also been adapted as a short video series for NHPBS with support from the New Hampshire Humanities. The videos won her Best Performance at the 2022 NH Film Festival. The show has since been adapted into a children’s book illustrated by Sarah Diamond.
