Artist Statement

Drawn to Style
reflects artist Cindy Mauchi's passion for fashion and illustration. Through pencil, ink, watercolor, and collage, she brings figures and clothing to life with bold lines, dynamic shapes, and vibrant color creating a narrative of beauty and joy.

In her sketches, she intends to capture movement, attitude, and style–– elements that come together to tell a personal story.

Each piece invites the viewer to experience a sliver of the fashion world–– one that is stylish, expressive, and playful. The work is an interpretation of how the artist sees and feels fashion: mesmerizing, meaningful, and alive.

Artist Bio

Cindy Mauchi is a fashion designer and illustrator whose work transforms the language of fashion into dynamic, mixed-media portraits. Each subject is portrayed with expressive attitude, rendered through dramatic proportions, bold silhouettes, quick gestural lines, and vibrant color washes. Mauchi primarily works in pencil, ink, and cut-paper collage, layering details atop spontaneous energy.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Mauchi moved to New York City to study Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). She went on to work as a Senior Menswear Designer for Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger before relocating to New Hampshire in 2014 with her husband and two children.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mauchi turned her creative focus toward illustration, enrolling at the Art Students League of New York, where she continues to study under Charles Nitzberg. She now works as a Fashion Consultant for DKNY and Dogg Supply by Snoop Dogg while developing her illustration practice from her New Hampshire studio.

Her work has been exhibited at the Art Students League Salon Show in New York City, the Kittery Art Association in Maine, and the Mosaic Art Collective in New Hampshire. Mauchi explores fashion as both a visual language and an expressive performance, bringing it into life through motion, attitude, and color in each piece she creates.
