Make your very own musical instrument with local ceramics instructor and illustrator Isabella Rotman! Clay whistles are an ancient technology that anyone can create—no prior clay experience needed. In this fun and hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the steps to making functional clay whistles that can play up to three notes, as well as have the opportunity to turn your whistle into a decorated sculptural work! Each participant will bring home their finished whistle along with an illustrated instructional zine to continue whistle-making on your own.

About Isabella Rotman:
Isabella Rotman is an Eisner and Ignatz Award nominated cartoonist and illustrator living and drawing in Maine. She is a founding organizer of Comic Arts Maine Portland, and an adjunct instructor at MECA&D. Although her original intention was for ceramics to be a creative outlet outside of her career when she started throwing in 2021, she quickly fell in love with clay and has been teaching pottery since summer 2024. Isabella loves teaching and finds a huge amount of joy and honor in being part of her students' creative growth. Her teaching style is encouraging, specific, and tailored to individual need.
