Artist Bio

Jeanné McCartin

Jeanné McCartin's visual art is storytelling and reporting with an art form that intersects between sculpture and painting.

Her work focuses on the human experience - cultural, social and internal, and how they impact on the psyche. She occasionally veers into works depicting nostalgic childhood scenarios/stories for a "respite from it all."

Her chosen art form, which evolved over decades, employs numerous medium, largely multiple clays, mache, paint, and found objects. Each fabrication requires "finding solution."

McCartin attended Vesper George School of Art to pursue 2D work. She returned to 3-D initially creating non-wearable, expressive wall masks, then moved on to full figures, till a need to explore stories at greater length led to the 3-D, sculpted paintings she's created for the past few decades.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the US, has appeared in numerous publications, theatrical productions, and is in the permanent City of Portsmouth Collection.
