Alex Leith explores the interplay of texture, color, shape, and mark-making in pursuit of luminous movement. His works embody Chronoluminarism, a term derived from a Neo-Impressionist cognate that expresses his interest in the interrelationship of time, light, and color.

His paintings emerge as manifestations of a powerful creative force that exists beyond our literal field of vision, becoming delineations of spiritual emanation. Through layered surfaces, shifting color, and dynamic marks, the work investigates the complex experience of a moment—not as something fixed, but as something continuously unfolding.

Chronoluminarism considers the energy and aura of the world with which we interact, exploring how light, color, memory, and perception converge within a single moment. The paintings seek to make visible what is otherwise intangible: the movement of time, the resonance of experience, and the luminous energy that surrounds and connects us.

Alex Leith is a fourth generation Portsmouth native. He graduated from UNH in 2014 with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking but also enjoyed welding, bronze casting, ceramics, drawing, and photography. Technically a multi-instrumentalist, yet a master of none. Long culinary history, but not a fan of being called chef. Big fan of thrifting–– started soft pastel work after finding a full set of Rembrandt pastels for $3. Was employed at a vintage arcade and craft beer bar in Philly for seven years. Currently works on a customs team creating copper/brass lighting fixtures. Occasionally assists teaching glassblowing classes.
