Artist Statement
The selected works in this exhibition explore the endless possibilities of paper. Papers made in Asia are favored for their translucent, delicate nature and their resilience to endure vigorous manipulation. Through a process of experimentation and invention these works are soaked, dyed, rolled and torn—drawn, painted, printed and pierced to become artifacts—their outcome unexpected and often revelatory.
The layered and meticulously worked surfaces of my drawings, paintings and cut-paper structures explore the mystery and vitality of the landscape—by leaving preconceived ideas behind the work becomes sites of turbulence, tranquility, fragility and beauty.
