On The Map, the 3S inaugural juried exhibition will be on display from Friday, August 5- Saturday, September 3, 2016. A special opening reception is scheduled for Friday, August 5 from 5-8pm. A $500 juror’s award will be presented at 6 pm at the opening reception.

For its first open call juried exhibition, 3S called for submissions from contemporary artists across New England and invited nationally recognized artist and writer, Christopher French, of Long Island, NY, to select the artwork. 

Juror Christopher French's work has been widely exhibited nationally and abroad. Museum collections include the Hirshhorn Museum of Art (Washington D.C), National Museum of American Art (Washington D.C), Weatherspoon Museum (North Carolina), and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

For more than 20 years his art criticism and social commentary has appeared in publications including The Brooklyn Rail, ARTnews, Flash Art,Art Papers, and The Journal of Art. He has authored or contributed essays to numerous monographs and exhibition catalogues, and is a past president of the United States chapter of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).

Of the 65 artists selected for On The Map 26 reside in towns across NH. 17 artists will come from throughout Maine, 15 from Massachusetts, with several from Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York. The artwork represents a wide range of media across many disciplines including ephemeral suspended cut paper pieces, humorous collage and assemblage sculpture, video, photography, oil paintings at various scales and fine-detailed mixed media drawings and paintings. The gallery will be open to the public beginning on August 6th with the following hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10am-6pm; Saturday, 12pm-5pm; closed on Sundays and Mondays. 3S Artspace is located at 319 Vaughan Street in Portsmouth, NH.
