Summer Images
works by Jane Coder
June 6 - 29 | Reception Friday, June 6 / 5 - 8pm During Art 'Round Town
Artist Statement
Summer Images is a collection of paintings, acrylic on canvas, created over the past two summers representing the peaceful moods and patterns of shadows and light. Using colors of the season - blues, greens, yellows, Jane Coder captures the sweep of a breeze, sun through leaves, reflections on water. Other works are inspired by light, sky, gardens, trees - always the play of light. Acrylic colors are applied to canvas with various tools in addition to brushes: pieces of sponge, torn paper, crumpled cloth. The artist's organic approach to life is evident in the varied choice of patterns and inspiration.
"My art does not track pain and anguish in the world, instead it increases energy of spirit by creating something new, a better day through color and shapes."
Artist Bio
Jane Coder worked in her studio at the Button Factory in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for twenty-two years. During that time, she held various jobs in Massachusetts and New Hampshire (including teaching at Portsmouth High School) with long commutes and many responsibilities, but her life translated into visual images– colors, shapes, lines. She presently has space in Cedar Street Studios, a former carriage factory in Amesbury, Massachusetts where her art continues to parallel her life.
