Artist Statement
This is a series of still-life paintings that sit in quiet, in-between moments. I’m drawn to rich, saturated colors and simple compositions, where geometric patterns and more organic shapes can live together without competing but instead create a kind of visual rhythm. I explore the tension between structure and softness.
I’m interested in holding onto that feeling of wanting to keep a moment just a little longer. It has a nostalgic quality, that soft pull of recognition, like something familiar you can’t quite place. Color does a lot of that work for me. It carries emotion, memory, and atmosphere in a way that feels immediate.
My process is both considered and open-ended. I usually start with a simple idea sketched out on canvas, then build slowly from there. I’m focused on finding the right balance—layering color, shaping both geometric and more organic forms, and leaving quiet areas of white space for the eye to rest.
There’s a balance between planning and letting things shift as I go. Some parts are very intentional, while others evolve more instinctively, almost like I’m in conversation with the painting as it develops.

Artist Bio
Bethany Moulton is a Kittery, Maine based artist creating still-life and figurative paintings defined by rich color and simple, painterly compositions. Her work explores the balance between geometric pattern and organic forms, often bringing structure and softness into focus. Drawing on a process that is both intentional and intuitive, she builds her paintings over time, layering color, refining shape, and allowing space to emerge, resulting in pieces that feel vivid, painterly, and familiar.
While painting is a more recent focus of her practice, Moulton draws on an extensive background in graphic design, which continues to shape her approach to color, composition, and visual structure. With over 15 years of experience in the creative industry, she has led the development of brand and graphic packages inspired by a wide range of artists and initiatives. This foundation informs her strong sense of composition, visual rhythm, and the expressive use of color that defines her fine art practice.
Known for her vibrant palettes and painterly approach, her work reflects an ongoing exploration of the beauty and complexity found in everyday objects and the human form. At its core, her paintings are less about specific subjects and more about creating a feeling, something nostalgic and lingering.
