Big Ink: Opening Reception

Large Woodcut Print Sessions
Opening Reception: June 2, 5-8pm
Dates of workshop: June 3rd – 4th, 2017
Exhibit Dates: June 2 – July 15

Join us at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth, NH for the latest and greatest opening reception of BIG INK large woodcut prints. Curated by Beth Falconer, the executive director of 3S Artspace, the exhibit will include blocks printed across America using BIG INK's large portable printmakig press and made in conjuction with organizations across the country. The exhibit runs until July 15th.

BIG INK’s director Lyell Castonguay has provided the means and equipment to produce countless woodblocks prints for over a hundred artists since the project’s inception in 2012. During the opening reception at 3S, BIG INK will be celebrating the organization's first year with "The Big Tuna" —a unique, portable printmaking press that can be setup indoors or outdoors and prints woodcuts up to 48″ x 96″ in size. No other such machine exists that can travel readily and provide artists easily affordable access to specialized printing equipment. Since June 2016, "The Big Tuna" has traveled to seven different states (including downtown Manhattan!) and has printed professional quality art for dozens of artists.

Join us the following two days, June 3rd and 4th, and see "The Big Tuna" in action as BIG INK works with 13 regionally recognized artists. The rain or shine event, located at 3S Artspace’s gallery at 319 Vaughan Street, is free and open to the public from 10 am – 5 pm. This event is sponsored by 3S Artspace, a Portsmouth nonprofit arts organization that combines the only midsize, flexible performance space of its kind in the area, a large, contemporary visual arts gallery, and an affordable and approachable restaurant serving as a local hub, ideal as a gathering place for patrons and locals alike.
